Neptune Technology Group has launched a new generation of smart water meters designed to reduce costs and accelerate digital transformation for water utilities across the United States.

The Alabama-based manufacturer’s latest offering combines a high-precision ultrasonic meter with a cellular device capable of connecting to multiple mobile networks. This multicarrier feature removes the need for utilities to build and maintain dedicated communication networks, a longstanding barrier to widespread adoption of smart metering systems.

“Water providers need affordable solutions that work today and adapt tomorrow,” a Neptune spokesperson said. “This new technology delivers exactly that without straining budgets.”

The launch follows increasing regulatory pressure on utilities to improve water monitoring and reduce leakage. Many providers continue to rely on aging mechanical meters that require costly maintenance and offer limited data on consumption patterns. In contrast, Neptune’s system supplies real-time insights into flow rates, temperature, and pressure, helping utilities detect leaks promptly and enhance operational efficiency.

Analysts view the multicarrier capability as a key differentiator in a market where digital upgrades are becoming more common. While other manufacturers such as Sensus and Badger Meter have introduced similar technologies, Neptune’s solution is expected to appeal to smaller and rural utilities with limited resources.

Population growth and climate-related pressures are further driving demand for modern infrastructure. Neptune’s technology offers utilities the flexibility to choose the best available mobile network, which could accelerate adoption in areas with variable service coverage and limited budgets.

By addressing technical and financial barriers, Neptune aims to set a new standard for smart water management across the country, closing the technology gap between rural and urban utilities.
